Join a night-time bat walk at Furey Woods

People are being offered the unusual opportunity to get close to the only mammal in the world capable of flying - the bat.

During the first week in September an expert from the Cheshire Bat Group will lead two walks in Hartford and Northwich and give an insight into the lives of these nocturnal animals.

The group will be able to find out about a bat’s habitat and behaviour, and which species live the UK. Bat detectors will be used to pick up communication sounds that can't be heard by the human ear .

The bat walks will take place on Thursday 4 September, 7.30pm, at Furey Wood in Northwich and on Saturday 6 September, 7.30pm, at Marshall’s Arm in Hartford. Booking is essential for both events. Please contact Martin Harrison, Countryside Ranger, by email: mharrison@valeroyal.gov.uk or telephone: 01606 867772.

Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. You are advised to wear suitable outdoor clothing, including sturdy footwear, and to bring a torch.

All species of bat are legally protected and care should be taken around them. For further information on bats visit The Bat Conservation Trust website at www.bats.org.uk.
